NYF International Television & Film Awards releases shortlist; Philippines scores 14 slots

MANILA, FEBRUARY 6, 2013 – New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards has released its list of 2013 finalists. Now on its 56th year of honouring the World’s Best TV & Films, the awards-giving body’s Grand Jury determined the finalists from submissions from 50 different countries, including the Philippines, with 14 included in the shortlist. 

 
Shortlisted entries from the Philippines include:
Best Performance by an Actress – Maalaala Mo Kaya (Remembering) – ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation
Biography/Profiles – Johnny: The Juan Ponce Enrile Story – ABS-CBN Corporation
Biography/Profiles – The Youngest (Ang Pinakabata) – GMA News TV
Current Affairs – Failon Today: “Mine Tailings” – ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation
Drama – Budoy – ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation
Environment & Ecology – Oras Na (It’s Time) – GMA Network, Inc.
History & Society – Ang Simula – ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation
Real Estate/Home Improvement – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Philippines – ABC Development Corporation (TV5)
Sales – Rogue Cover – Unitel Productions, Inc. 
Short Films – A Life in a Day – Unitel Productions, Inc.
Social Issues – Krusada: “Bata ng Tahanan” (Child-Headed Homes) – ABS-CBN Corporation

Commenting on the importance of producing best TV and films, Rose Anderson, executive director of NYF Television & Film Awards, said, “The outstanding programming across multiple platforms created by this year’s Finalists shows that today’s storytellers engage worldwide viewers on all screens. Audiences around the globe are as eager to be entertained as to be informed.”
 
Last year, the Philippines took home 12 Finalist Certificates, one Bronze and three Silver metals. GMA Network and GMA News TV won the Silvers for the Philippines. 
 
All finalists proceed to a second round of judging to determine the Grand Trophy Award recipients, as well as Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists.
