Copywriter/Director wins Clio & Two pencils for Google Job Experiment

The uncommon approach of Alec Brownstein’s job-searching did not only land him a spot in Y&R New York but also got himself interviewed by 5 of New York City’s top creative directors.

In search of a job, the copywriter/director thought of an unusual method to do so. He bought the names of the top NYC creative directors off Google, namely Gerry Graf, David Droga, Tony Granger, Ian Reichenthal and Scott Vitrone. It only cost him $6 because the bid was low and "got the top for 10 cents a click." The Google Job Experiment got him interviewed with everyone except Granger.

The eye-catching methods of Brownstein included the spot for Nike where his writing allows a pedophile to get away from the "To Catch a Predator" crew with the pedophile wearing Nikes. He was also the culprit of purchasing the Droga5.net domain, replacing the agency’s images with his own.

Referred to as "jerk" but not quite so, Brownstein writes most of the work on http://jerksinyourarea.com, a site that creates and compiles pseudo-ads intended for amusement.

He now works for Y&R New York.

The Google Experiment, which only cost Brownstein $6, got him 2 pencils and a Clio for Best Self Promotions.
