GLOBAL, 24 MAY, 2013 – Ninety years ago, John Orr Young and Raymond Rubicam opened Y&R’s doors for business. The agency, which has become one of the world’s most iconic and dynamic advertising firms, is now gearing up to celebrate this momentous occasion.
In preparation for this day, Y&R has been inviting people from all over the world to tell them what advertising means to them by eliciting contributions to an ongoing social-media conversation. Said conversation will be interpreted in the form of a “90th anniversary mosaic” – an interactive billboard located in Times Square in New York that was set up in partnership with Spark Plug startup Hyperactivate. For the billboard, Hyperactivate works to capture avatars used by those who post on the popular social networks Twitter and Facebook, and adds them to the mosaic.
On Thursday, May 23rd from 2p-330p (New York time), said event will be live-streamed on the Y&R homepage. Contributors who post on Facebook and tweet will enjoy seeing their posts appear live on said billboard, and will help work towards revealing the final form of the mosaic.
