Sports5 to launch AKTV sports block on IBC 13 with AKTV Run

PHILIPPINES, MAY 17, 2011 – Sports5, TV5’s sports arm, will formally launch its AKTV sports block on IBC 13 through the AKTV Run on June 5.

Sports5’s initial offering featured the fight of Ana Julaton versus Francesca Alcanter last February. In the past few months, Sports5 has provided coverage of the Davis Cup qualifiers, the PBA Developmental League (D-League), the Philippine Pool Championship and the World 10-Ball Championship. It also presents the latest boxing matches via Bigtime Bakbakan every Sunday on TV5.

AKTV will air various sports, health and fitness programs, as a response to Filipinos’ growing interest in sports, health and wellness. It is targeted to both men and women in the 18-45 years old segment. Sports programs will include basketball games, boxing matches, billiards and mixed martial arts tournaments. It hopes to later include programs about running, football, badminton, wakeboarding, surfing, golf, racing, dancing and other lifestyle activities.

The AKTV Run on June 5 will be held at the SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. The race categories are in the 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K with Runrio organizing the race. Portions of the proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). There will also be a Family and Fitness Fair with sports demos, health brand booths, and autograph signing with celebrities. Registration is until May 22. To register, visit runrio.com/2011/05/aktv-run.
