The animated poster by celebrated, Singapore-based, artist Mojoko will be launched on the NFT marketplace Opensea.io. Mojoko has produced a limited series of 10 that will also be sold through the Crypto Art Week Asia’s online gallery and officially announced Saturday 27 November at the Cartoons Underground Golden Durian Awards Ceremony, live streamed from Kult Kafe, Turf City, Singapore.

A generous proportion of the proceeds will go to the festival and to support young animators.

“NFTs are a gamechanger for digital creators,” says Mojoko. “I’ve supported Cartoons Underground for years so this is the perfect way to raise funds for the festival and spread the word about these new ways for digital artists to turn their talent into a living.”

“Paying the bills is the biggest challenge for most your creatives, especially in the age of the attention economy where platforms ‘pay’ artists in likes. Likes don’t keep the lights on. NFTs are a promising foundation for a future career.”

The growing importance of crypto art will feature in a panel discussion on ‘The future of monetization in animation’ at 8pm on Thursday 25 November that explores the potential of NFTs as a revenue stream for artists.

“We have developed the festival platform to seek out, engage and encourage talented young people into animation and to connect them with the industry and community to help them thrive,” says Cartoons Underground co-founder and festival director Vicky Chen. “NFTs are another way of creating a link between creators and those who love their work, one that can benefit both.”

Mojoko created the work in collaboration with Cartoons Underground’s Head of Design, Jia Lee, who animated the artwork and composed the accompanying audio track.

Lee, who is both an artist and co-founder of the Cannes-nominated independent animation studio Finding Pictures, was thrilled to be asked to work with Mojoko to animate his artwork.

“It was a great opportunity to collaborate with a recognised artist and to be able to add an animated crypto twist. I see huge potential for connecting with fans in novel ways and feel enthusiastic about how these might help future animators find new ways of succeeding,” she says. “NFTs are definitely the future.”
