Technically speaking, the motion of running is achieved when the body is repeatedly allowed to rapidly “fall forward”, while the legs and feet alternately catch the fall.
And for hundreds of runners early morning of Nov. 19, this movement took on a whole new level of meaning.
More than 300 delegates of the 21st Philippine Advertising Congress (PAC) and guests joined “Takbo Mo! Tulong Mo!” a 5-km fun run organized by the 21st PAC Sports Committee for the benefit of the victims of tropical storms that have recently devastated Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.

" alt="" />Fernando Zobel De Ayala, president and COO of Ayala Corp and the honorary chair for the 21st PAC, led the throng of runners at the Remy Field Oval in Subic Bay Free Port Zone. With the run already a tradition in the Ad Congress, this year’s installment was doubly special as it was the first time that the 5K run was open to all.
“We wanted to create more avenues for us to raise more money for the typhoon victims so we decided to open it to non-delegates as well,” said 21st PAC chair for the 5K run Danny Adapon. “It’s like hitting two birds with one stone as we also believe in the adage that the more runners, the merrier.”
Along with 21st PAC delegates, professional runners from Subic and other provinces were also invited to participate, as it successfully opened more opportunities to raise more funds for the Red Cross Baguio Chapter, the official event beneficiary.
Moreover, the fun run also sets to promote health and wellness among advertising professionals.
“In a demanding industry such as advertising, the 5K run also serves as a reminder that health is still important,” said Adapon. “This serves as a way to further stress awareness for a more fit and healthy lifestyle, so that the energy and the enthusiasm for the profession will continue to live on.”
“Takbo Mo! Tulong Mo!” is co-chaired by Danny Sembrano, with the support of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). “Professional runners dominated the competition but it’s nice seeing that delegates have put their hearts into the sport and actually showed great determination to reach the finish line as fast as they could,” Sembrano said. “The efforts for superb athleticism are amazing and those who joined could almost give the pros a run for their money,”
The winners of the 5k run are as follows: for the Individual Male category, Rowel Odonio finished first in 18.47 minutes, followed closely by Benedicto Augusto and Neil Catiil. For the individual female, Mirasol Abad bagged first place after reaching the finish line at 22:33, followed by Kathryn Carag and Sherielle Guerra.
For the guests category, Fernando Zobel De Ayala finished first at 26:59, followed by Dino Laurena and AdBoard chair Charmaine Canillas.
Special recognition was also given to the most senior runners 64-year-old Vic Mandadero and 58-year-old Tessie Clark, who finished the run strong.
The event was made possible by Timex, Globe, BPI and Ayala Land, in cooperation with Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Mister Donut and Powerade.
