Pacquiao-Margarito bout aired by a few, watched by all

PHILIPPINES, NOVEMBER 12, 2010 – One is aiming for the boxing record books. The other is seeking redemption from a sullied reputation. Whatever happens during the Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito super welterweight title slugfest, the world will want to witness every sweaty, bloody second of it.

With tens of millions of dollars exchanging hands (or gloves) among the fighters, promoters, and managers, and hundreds of millions of dollars more at stake at the betting pool, you bet the television networks will spare no expense in covering the boxing match of the year.

The fight will be carried live over cable TV channel HBO Pay-Per-View. Locally, the Solar Sports All Access channel will air the fight live, without commercial breaks, while Solar Sports TV will have a delayed telecast with commercial breaks, Solar Sports will also feed GMA Network for its own delayed telecast of the fight. Major AM radio stations such as DZMM, DZBB and DZRH will offer intermittent and flash reports and commentaries on the bout as it unfolds.

The delayed televised Pacquiao-Margarito fight, as expected, will be peppered in between rounds with sponsors such as Nike, Alaxan, McDonald’s, Xtreme Magic Sing, PLDT, San Miguel Beer, and Café Puro.

Manny Pacquiao, Pac-Man to his adoring countrymen and “The Mexicutioner” for Mexico’s boxing aficionados, is attempting to become the only boxer in history to hold eight world titles in as many weight divisions. Antonio Margarito, the former World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation, and World Boxing Organization Welterweight champion, was suspended from professional boxing for a year after being found to have used illegal hand wraps for his fight against Shane Mosley.
