For many Filipinos, getting a loan and insurance policy can feel like two separate financial decisions. Mobile wallet GCash wanted to change that perception by making protection an integral part of the borrowing experience and turning the proposition into something Filipinos could easily understand, remember, and act on.

“GLoan with Free Health Insurance” is a campaign that marries financial inclusion with music, humor, data, and performance. Its creative execution, “Loan Song Syndrome,” transformed a financial product benefit into earworm inspired by the 90s hit “ A La La La Long.”

The campaign ultimately earned GCash, alongside its agency partners Universal McCann Philippines and Publicis JimenezBasic, the Best of Philippines and Masters of Media recognition at the recently concluded YouTube Works Awards Philippines 2026. The wins prove that a purpose-driven proposition can also become a high-performing and award-winning piece of creative work.

GCash’s “GLoan with Free Health Insurance” made financial protection more accessible by automatically providing free health and accident insurance with every GLoan transaction — turning a simple borrowing experience into an opportunity for greater security when customers need it most.

The company will also represent the Philippines and compete against top regional campaigns at the YouTube Works Awards Southeast Asia later this year. Check out the full list of winners here.

Making insurance part of the loan

The idea behind “GLoan with Free Health Insurance” is deceptively simple: every time customers borrow through GLoan, they automatically receive free health and accident insurance. By integrating protection into the borrowing experience, GCash removed barriers to accessing insurance, making coverage available when it matters most.

But while the product proposition was straightforward, communicating it to millions of Filipinos required a creative idea that could cut through the complexity often associated with financial services. Rather than relying on conventional messaging about loans, insurance, and financial protection, GCash sought a way to make the benefit feel more approachable and, more importantly, more memorable.

The answer came in the form of music and humor. Drawing inspiration from the familiar 90s hit “A La La La Long,” GCash transformed the song’s infectious quality into “Loan Song Syndrome,” building a playful musical hook around the word “loan.” The campaign used the familiarity of a beloved pop-culture reference to turn a functional financial benefit into an entertaining story that the target audience can immediately recognize and remember.

“Riding on the 90s hit ‘La La La Long’ we created Loan Song Syndrome, a catchy, unforgettable, and easy-to-understand campaign that makes borrowing and getting insurance easy for millions of Filipinos,” GCash Chief Marketing Officer Neil Trinidad told adobo Magazine in an exclusive interview.

The creative approach gave GCash a way to simplify a proposition that could otherwise require lengthy explanations. Instead of asking the audience to process the technicalities of insurance coverage first, the campaign introduced the benefit through a familiar tune, humor, and repetition. The result was a financial message designed to stay with consumers long after they encountered the ad.

At its core, “Loan Song Syndrome” made the product proposition easy to remember: borrow through GLoan, and get protection. That simplicity became one of the campaign’s greatest strengths. A financial product that could easily get lost in technical language was transformed into something the audience could hear, understand, and even find themselves humming.

But the campaign’s success was not simply about making insurance memorable. It was about making protection more accessible in the first place.

For GCash, embedding free health and accident insurance into GLoan was another step toward its broader vision of financial inclusion, giving Filipinos access to financial tools that can help them navigate unexpected expenses and emergencies.

“This campaign is just one of those solutions by giving people who borrow the chance to get free health and accident insurance. It’s our way of giving back,” Neil said.

Ultimately, the campaign showed that a financial message does not have to be complicated to be meaningful. By making protection part of the borrowing journey and turning that proposition into a song people could remember, GCash created a campaign that could entertain while communicating a tangible benefit.

From attention to action

Behind the campaign’s infectious hook was a deliberate performance-led strategy designed to turn memorability into measurable action. While “Loan Song Syndrome” used music and humor to make GLoan with Free Health Insurance easy to recognize, GCash paired that creative approach with data and AI to ensure the campaign reached the right audience and moved them beyond awareness.

For GCash, this meant treating brand-building and performance marketing not as separate functions, but as complementary parts of the same campaign. The creative was built to capture attention, while data-driven targeting and optimization helped translate that attention into consideration, conversion, and, essentially, business impact.

YouTube, meanwhile, became a key part of that equation, providing the scale and video environment needed to build the campaign’s distinctive identity while supporting its performance objectives. Per Neil, the platform gives brands the opportunity to show that creative work can do more than capture the audience’s attention. It can turn engagement into meaningful consumer action and deliver measurable business results.

“YouTube has been a platform for creativity to win attention. This campaign showed us that YouTube, when merged with performance marketing, is a platform to drive business results,” Neil noted.

“It’s a great combination of both branding and performance marketing, using data and AI to drive reach, drive conversion, and drive memorability in a catchy, fun campaign that’s hard to forget and easy to remember.”

For Neil Trinidad, financial inclusion is at the heart of the brand’s vision, emphasizing how combining purpose with performance can help create meaningful solutions and drive the right results.

Moreover, the campaign proved that an entertainment-led idea could translate into tangible business outcomes, reinforcing the creative with a full-funnel media strategy that brought the campaign to life across formats—from 60-second hero films designed to build the story and establish memorability, to quick six-second bumper ads that delivered the product message in an instant.

The strategy also delivered measurable impact, driving a 14.5% increase in daily users and a 36.7% increase in daily disbursements. Beyond performance, the campaign also generated significant shifts in consumer interest and brand perception. Search interest for “Free Health Insurance” surged by 684%, while GCash recorded a seven-point lift in the brand attribute, “Brand I can depend on for emergency or additional funds.”

At the same time, the campaign paved the way for cost-efficiency, reducing customer acquisition costs by 95% compared with standard search baselines. Together, these figures showed how a culturally relevant creative idea, supported by a strategically sequenced media plan and AI-driven optimization, could move audiences from awareness and recall to consideration and conversion.

“Our vision at GCash is finance for all. We want to solve the problems of financial inclusion and access, and it really shows us that purpose combined with performance can achieve the right results,” Neil said in conclusion.
