D&AD announces first batch of finalists for 2024 Awards, with highest number of entries since 2007

LONDON, UK — The 62nd annual D&AD Awards, with its Ceremony due to take place on May 22 in London, have announced the first shortlist from the following categories: Art Direction, Book Design, Branding, Casting, Commerce, Digital & Social, Digital Design, Direct, Editing, Entertainment, Experiential, Film, Graphic Design, Media, Music Videos, Packaging Design, Photography, PR, Production Design, Radio & Audio, Visual Effects, Writing for Design. 

Reflecting on the volume of submissions received this year, D&AD President 2024 Jack Renwick commented, “In a climate where projects and resources are increasingly under pressure, creativity remains unstoppable. Looking across the shortlist, creatives are showing that they can think their way around these restrictions and continue to create brilliant, impactful work.” 

Globally respected and famously hard to win, the D&AD Awards celebrate creative excellence, believing creativity is critical to commercial, economic, social and cultural success.

The non-profit organization goes to great lengths to ensure a rigorous judging process, focused on integrity, with industry leaders selecting only the most exceptional creative work. Their focus on creativity, originality, and effectiveness ensures that winning entries represent the pinnacle of excellence in advertising and design.  

The Awards incorporates more than 43 categories judged by over 300 of the world’s leading creatives from over 60 countries (54% female-identifying), recognizing work that will inspire both seasoned and emerging talent. As a charity, awards entries enable D&AD to fund educational programs such as D&AD Shift, a free, industry-led night school for self-taught creatives from under-represented backgrounds, currently running in London, New York, Berlin, São Paulo and Sydney, with more locations to be announced. 

New categories such as Luxury, Pharma, Sustained Impact, Health and Wellbeing reflect the evolving landscape of the creative industries, acknowledging the increasing importance of these sectors in Marketing and Design. It allows the international awards to stay current and inclusive, recognizing excellence in these specialized areas and providing a platform for innovative work that addresses unique challenges.
