All-Filipino cast brings Resorts World Manila’s Cinderella to life

MANILA – October 10, 2013 – An all-Filipino cast brings Resorts World Manila’s Cinderella to life at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) beginning on October 10.

The production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella is the latest musical offering from RWM, which aims to bring world-class entertainment to Filipinos.

"In the interest of theater arts, we have to invest because audiences expect to see something better, more glamorous, and more ‘bonggacious’ than the previous production," RWM Chief Entertainment Officer Colin Kerr said in a press release.

"What we have done before, that becomes the norm and we always try to do better with subsequent productions. That’s something that Resorts World Manila always aims to do – we always try to give a wow factor," Kerr added.

In this version of the classic tale, an all-Filipino cast is led by Karylle Tatlonghari as Cinderella, with Julia Abueva and Justine Pena as alternates. Christian Bautista plays Prince Christopher, with Fred Lo as alternate.

Philippine musical theater veteran Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo plays the Fairy Godmother. Also in the supporting cast are Pinky Marquez, Sweet Plantado, Sheila Francisco, Miguel Faustmann, Maronne Cruz, Giannina Ocampo and Red Concepcion.

Resorts World Manila’s Cinderella is directed by Michael Stuart Williams. The musical will be scored by Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Rodel Colmenar.

"It has never been done on this scale. The package of it looks brand new but the core of it is still that golden nugget that we’ve preserved, although everything around it is updated. I think that’s the beauty of it. It’s like a little cordial cherry in a chocolate shell. It’s still quite relevant and beautiful," Williams said.
