A ‘bright’ idea for a night run

MANILA, OCTOBER 11, 2012 – Gear up for a 5k/10k/15k run, party hard and celebrate bright ideas all in one night!

Through adobo magazine‘s Run After Dark, you can help MyShelter Foundation achieve its goal of bringing sustainable light to one million homes all over the world! For the second year running, adobo magazine is partnering with ‘A Liter of Light’, dedicating part of the proceeds of the registration to benefit the initiative.

On October 20 at the Mall of Asia complex, runners are expected to don their creepiest, wackiest costumes for a Halloween night run with a party waiting at the finish line!  It’s the third serving of adobo Run After Dark, promising grander firework displays, more live musical performances and their signature offering of free-flowing beer!

Since its inception in 2001, MyShelter Foundation, led by social entrepreneur Illac Diaz, has been at the forefront of the sustainable movement in the Philippines. The organization’s most-talked about project was the Bottle School at Laguna completed in 2011. Its latest venture strikes closer to home.

Originally developed by students of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where Diaz attended, ‘A Liter of Light’ is a simple technology that uses plastic bottles filled with water and bleach to bring light to homes where electricity is considered luxury.

In the press launch of adobo Run After Dark 3, Diaz excitedly demonstrated a modified version of the solar bulb: waterproof and collapsible in the form of a compact inflatable bag. Light is stored in batteries that power 8-LED lights, allowing the light to be used in the evening for up to four hours.

Since its launch last year, ‘A Liter of Light’, with the help of the United Nations, has seen production of over 200,000 solar bulbs in 30 countries.
