adobo Design Awards: Early Bird rate until February 11

MANILA – When it comes to submitting entries to the 2014 adobo Design Awards, the earlier, the better. Now, creative professionals, freelancers, designers, students, and pretty much anyone with a standout design idea can enjoy an early bird discount on the awards entry fee.

Professionals who register on or before February 11 can enjoy a discounted entry fee of P1,600 per entry.

Meanwhile, students who register by the said date can avail of a 5 + 1 promo, which gives them one free entry for every five submissions–perfect for creative barkadas who want to share their ideas to the design world.

Now on its 5th year, the stakes are higher than ever, with the introduction of new formats and a judging panel composed of some of the top guns in the advertising and design industry.

The competition is divided into two categories: Professional, and Open/ Theme.

Philippine or foreign-based companies or individual advertising or creative professionals can submit their work under the Professional category. New formats include Photography, whether commercial, editorial, or digital imaging; and Wearable Design, such as clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, watches, hats, and other accessories. A full list of formats can be viewed on the adobo Design Awards website.

Meanwhile, professionals, freelancers, and students of design and advertising can enter the Open/ Theme category. This year, the category’s theme, "Design for the Future," calls for design that thinks about tomorrow–looking at old problems in new ways.

Designs needn’t be grand, as long as they are socially relevant, environmentally- conscious, sustainable, uses locally-sourced material, and reflects Filipino sensibilities. Formats could be anything from Packaging, Wearable Design, Environmental, Furniture, and Others.

Heading the jury this year is New York-based graphic designer and educator Lucille Lozada Tenazas. In 2013, Tenazas received the prestigious AIGA Medal, awarded by the American Institute of Graphic Arts.

Joining her are some of the creative industry’s most accomplished names: Team Manila designer Jowee Alviar, bag designer and SoFA co-founder Amina Aranaz-Alunan, architect and SoFA dean Tobias Guggenheimer, industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue, graphic designer AJ Dimarucot, TV commercial director Sid Maderazo, Rogue Magazine creative director Miguel Mari, illustrator Dan Matutina, sculptor and artist Leeroy New, Walt Disney animator Armand Serrano, photographer Jay Tablante, shoe designer Brian Tenorio, and College of St. Benilde School of Design and Arts Dean Joey Yupangco.

Ad industry heavyweights will also be part of the jury, including TBWA\SMP associate creative director John Ed de Vera, JWT Manila executive creative director Dave Ferrer, DM9JaymeSyfu chairman and chief creative officer Merlee Jayme, BBDO Guerrero executive creative director Dale Lopez, and MRM Manila deputy executive creative director Budjette Tan.

Deadline for submission of entries is on Friday, February 21, 2014, and winners will be awarded on March 28, 2014.
