Thomas Yang to lead jury in weighing ‘Design for a Purpose’

MANILA, MARCH 20, 2013 – adobo magazine is welcoming Thomas Yang, executive creative director of DDB Singapore, as jury president for the 4th adobo Design Awards.

According to Yang, strategic thinking precedes craft. He upholds Flexibility as the mark of any great art director, pertaining to a design sense that is "unrestricted by a particular style".

Since he joined DDB in 2009, Yang has helped create work that has made the agency the most awarded Singapore agency at Cannes, D&AD, the One Show, Spikes Asia, AdFest and the Creative Circle Awards, three years in a row. Prior to DDB, he served as head of art at JWT for four years, after making rounds at Lowe, BBDO, Ogilvy & Mather, M&C Saatchi and 10am Communications.

His 17-year strong industry experience is solidified by over 300 regional and international awards under his belt. But besides winning awards, Yang delights in passing on the recognition to other talents too. He has served as jury member to shows such as the Philippines’ Kidlat Awards, the Citra Pariwara in Indonesia and Cannes. Yang is a great supporter of Singapore’s local talent, consistently judging for the past decade at the Singapore Creative Circle Awards and the Crowbar Awards.

Outside the daily grind, Yang is a hardcore cyclist. His love for the sport was evident when it was translated into a collection of limited edition cycling-related prints and tees called ‘100copies’ (www.100copies.net), which is now a runaway hit.

Yang is set to meet with the adobo Design Awards’ stellar roster of judges on April 16 to 17. The Philippines’ best in design will be crowned on April 26 at the Ayala Museum.
