Among the display is Guyanese-British artist Hew Locke’s Koh-i-noor, a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II made from hundreds of plastic toys and trinkets. The title refers to the Koh-i-noor diamond, which is a fabled, egg-sized diamond that was ceded to Queen Victoria after the British annexation of India in the mid-nineteenth century and brought to England in 1877.

For The Queen’s Gambit’s part, some noteworthy pieces are On the Cross, inspired by French designer Pierre Cardin, a dress purchased by protagonist Beth while in Paris for her first European chess tournament; and the Bow Dress which she wore to another pivotal match in the series.

The exhibit also offers insight on the creative process of the costume designers and goes more in-depth in their roundtable with Gabriele Binder and The Crown’s Emmy Winning designer Amy Roberts.
