MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Ballet Manila raises the curtain on Swan Lake in a production that promises not just a retelling, but a reawakening of the timeless classic. As the company marks its Pearl Anniversary, it pulls out all the stops with an extraordinary collaboration featuring some of ballet’s most luminous names, including superstars from the San Francisco Ballet.

“Bringing this masterpiece to life for our 30th anniversary season is very monumental as it underscores Ballet Manila’s dedication to the highest standards of classical ballet,” explains Lisa Macuja Elizalde, Ballet Manila’s CEO and artistic director.
This landmark staging brings back homegrown star turned international soloist Katherine Barkman, a former principal dancer of Ballet Manila who now graces the world stage as first soloist of the San Francisco Ballet. Barkman returns to the Aliw Theater spotlight, dancing the emotionally demanding dual roles of Odette and Odile in evening shows on May 30 (8PM), May 31 (5PM), and June 1 (5PM).
She will be joined by Esteban Hernandez, principal dancer of San Francisco Ballet and a formidable force on the global stage. With a mix of strength, elegance, and dramatic depth, Hernandez takes on the role of Prince Siegfried.
On May 31 (1PM) and June 1 (1PM) audiences will see a fresh take on the main characters with matinee performances featuring Ballet Manila principal dancer Abigail Oliveiro and San Francisco Ballet soloist, Nathaniel Remez taking the lead.

This staging of Swan Lake highlights the seamless fusion of international and local talent, offering audiences a rare opportunity to witness world-class ballet artistry.
For Macuja Elizalde, the choice of Swan Lake for Ballet Manila’s Pearl Year is deeply personal, having portrayed the iconic lead role herself. Reflecting on its significance, she shares, “Swan Lake has always been one of my most beloved roles. The duality of Odette and Odile pushes a ballerina to her limits, both technically and emotionally.”
