July 20, 1969. A monumental day for all of the human race, or as Neil Armstrong put it, a “…small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”. For those who are not familiar with the date, it is in on this day that a team of esteemed scientists sent astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon 50 years ago aboard the Apollo 11.
Now, half a century later, mankind has progressed drastically but what we achieved 50 years ago remains to be a remarkable feat like no other. And sure enough, brands all over the world have gathered all their creative whims to celebrate and honor the anniversary of the lunar landing – and we’ve listed down our favorite ones below.
Enjoy creativity that’s out of this world:
- Krispy Kreme
What if 50 years ago, instead of landing on the moon, Armstrong and Aldrin was actually met with a different discovery? Krispy Kreme explores this by introducing crème-filled donuts in vanilla and chocolate in an ad that shows the sweet treats are loved inside and outside the planet – even by astronauts.
There have been a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding man’s landing on the moon and probably the most popular one is the theory that there was never a lunar landing that took place to begin with. Shutterstock claims that yes, man did land on the moon in 1969. But if they didn’t, it’s pretty easy to make it look like it did with stock footage and photography company.
50 years ago, mankind dared to accomplish an impossible mission: to land on the moon. And by some miracle, we did it. Now, decades after this has been fulfilled, Volkswagen released a campaign that rallies mankind behind a new mission: to go carbon neutral by 2050. The ad ends with a powerful note: Drive something bigger than yourself.
“A summer in the middle of the night. My parents had woken us up to watch television..” this Nissan QASHQAI film by TBWA\G1 revisits the awe-struck feeling spectators experienced 50 years ago while watching the momentous event take place. Alongside this, the campaign highlights this same feeling of driving a Nissan Qashqai equipped with Nissan’s ProPILOT technology (semi-autonomous driving tech), ending with “technology is beautiful when it moves us”.
To commemorate the moon landing in its own special way, Montblanc released a new range of Starwalker pens especially designed to celebrate the milestone 50 years ago. A stunning feature of the pen replicates Earth as it rises above the lunar horizon, capturing the moment in the blue dome under the Montblanc logo.
For years and years, the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional has sat as one of the brand’s most iconic pieces as Buzz Aldrin wore one of its earlier models to the moon. To celebrate its golden anniversary, OMEGA has released a limited edition Speedmaster watch in gold, releasing only 1,014 pieces.
