MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Propel Manila and Pride@Tech are providing documentation for trans Filipinos and Filipinas that aligns with their gender identities with Rebirth Certificates.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have their gender identity align with what was assigned at birth. Birth Certificates are the basis for so much that subjects trans individuals to discrimination every single day.
To give the community a way for their name and gender that aligns with their identity to be recognized, Propel Manila partnered with Pride@Tech, and Philippine Financial & Inter-Industry Pride, on Rebirth Certificates.
“Rebirth Certificates take a different and unique approach to how we use Web 3,” shared Pat del Castillo, co-founder of Pride@Tech. “This campaign enables trans people to use an NFT as a way to claim their true identity. And by minting it in the blockchain, their Rebirth Certificates will be indestructible.”
Advocacy Pillar Lead of Philippine Financial & Inter-industry Pride (PFIP) Dawn Mendoza also emphasized the everyday importance of gender identity recognition, supported by a Rebirth Certificate. “By integrating it into our hiring systems, trans individuals are now more visible in workplaces because their chosen name and gender identities are acknowledged.”
