GMA Network’s 50 years of reporting, an SNBO special on December 6

What it calls “a year of beginnings,” 1959 marks the launch of GMA Network.   Showcases of its landmark news coverages in the last five decades, titled “Limang Dekada” (Five Decades) will be telecast on Sunday, December 6 on Sunday Night Box Office (SNBO).

In its fifty-year operations, GMA News has won a number of Philippine and international news awards, not just for its news programs, but for its news anchors and hosts, as well.

In 1995, when “Saksi” (Witness) was then a 15-minute news report, Jessica Soho debuted as its reporter, alongside Arnold Clavio.  With Saksi already an acclaimed daily, hour-long program, Jessica Soho is now one of the network’s top investigative news reporters.  Soho hosts the telecast, tracing its roots and tracking the histories that shaped the events leading to its golden year.

“Limang Dekada” also features the equipment used to mount GMA News Live, the first news bulletins in the country aired throughout the day that sustained public interest of the latest updates on the Persian Gulf War in 1991.
