GLOBAL – LIONS Live launched on Monday, June 22, with an inspiring schedule of live and on-demand content from the most brilliant minds on the planet, hosted by Cannes Lions.
Here are some highlights from Day One:
Cannes Lions and WARC released The Effectiveness Code white paper, following a major global study of marketing effectiveness conducted by experts, James Hurman and Peter Field. As part of LIONS Live, Hurman and Field discussed their findings, in the session ‘Cracking the Effectiveness Code’ along with details of The Creative Effectiveness Ladder, which is designed to help brands and agencies increase the effectiveness of their campaigns by providing a universal framework of the six main types of effects produced by creative marketing. In Spotify’s session ‘Agile Storytelling – Creating Beyond the Jargon’, Courtney Holt, Spotify’s Global Head of Studios, spoke with Bill Simmons, Founder of The Ringer and Mallory Rubin, The Ringer’s Executive Editor, about the success of the podcast, the evolution of the audio space and the opportunities for brand marketers. Mallory Rubin, said: “The digital age is very isolating for a lot of people and podcasts are a bit of an antidote to that – they embed themselves so quickly into the fabric of your life… For marketing, advertising and creative people, there’s a real opportunity to recognise and capitalise on that depth of connection.” You can download clips from the session on the Press Portal.
In ‘Think Before You Shoot’, We Are Pi’s CEO, Alex Bennett-Grant, said: “It’s time to call time’s up on the ad industry’s dirty secret of racist casting calls.” Bennett-Grant highlighted the need for action to put an end to the practice of excluding, deleting and stereotyping black people in advertising. He implored the industry to make a pledge and take three steps to affect change: speak up or be complicit; demand black decision makers; and demand a safe forum for discussion.
