Events: Experimental Music, Contemporary Performances and Theatre Showcases Presented in CREATE Philippines’ 3rd Edition

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – CREATE Philippines 2019 in partnership with the Manila International Performing Arts Market (MIPAM) showcased the best of local and Asian performances in fields such as music, dance and theater at the CCP Complex in Pasay City.

The event was held as part of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (CCP) 50th anniversary celebrations which ran from the September 19-21, 2019.

An exciting lineup of free admission performances from different showcases were enjoyed by performing arts enthusiasts, artists and attendees of MIPAM x Create PH.

Among who performed are the Asian Gems in the Arts’ (AGA’s) Wang Juanjuan from China, Mendbayar Jargalsaikhan from Mongolia, Ea Torrado’s Daloy Dance Company from the Philippines and Yushuyachi Ensemble from Taiwan.

AJ Villanueva’s Ripieno Ensemble also caught the attention of the attendees through their sound art or experimental music. This special chamber music produced by CREATE Philippines’ Creative Director Erwin Romulo was performed with instruments made from scratch, mixing wood, plastic, and metal to create sound that is unique and haunting.

Theater showcases were from the Silly People’s Improv Theater, (SPIT) Dulaang UP, MASKARA Ensemble, Twin Bill, Harlequin Theater Guild, Artist Playground, Tanghalang Ateneo and the Artist Theater Company.

Musical performances from Leandro Martin Ong, Blood Drum Spirit, UP Manila Chorale, Joshua Ethan Dakanay, Kabataang Gitarista, Kawayan 7, Rizalinno Band and the FEU Bamboo Band were also enjoyed by the audiences.

Dancers from Sickledsam Linear Fluidity, Teatro Ambahanon, Daloy Dance Company, Dance Pull, CCP Choreographer Series, West Australian Ballet, Hip Hop International and Dance Sport Team Ormoc likewise presented their expertise.

Wild Card showcases from Sasa Cabalquinto, Mendbayar Jargalsaikhan, Black Canvas and Teatrong Mulat were highlighted on the third day.

CREATE Philippines and CCP’s MIPAM collaboration was organized to highlight the Performing Arts sector, a part of the Philippine creative industry that is teeming with talent, innovation and creativity.
