Travel: Basking in Anilao’s Stunning Marine Sanctuary in Lilom Resort – Turtles, Boat Rides and Getting All the Vitamin Sea

ANILAO, PHILIPPINES – On July 22-23, the whole party of adobo magazine employees drove 2.5 hours from the busy streets of Manila to the thriving marine life sanctuary of San Teodoro, Mabini, (Anilao) in Batangas for our annual company outing. Housing ourselves in Lilom Resort, Anilao, everyone from the admin to our editor-in-chief, was able to have some well-deserved peace and quiet before a pretty stunning view.

Lilom is a quaint and rustic little resort along the coastline of Anilao that, for a place that is kilometers away from home, exudes a warmth that is not difficult to grow familiar with despite being used to the concrete charms of the city. And for a city girl like myself, it’s a pleasant surprise to find my mind and body at rest in somewhere that’s not my usual city lights.

Our adobo team was divided into seven rooms, with hammocks at each room’s personal patio and a sitting area overlooking the endless waters below, it’s really not difficult to fall into Lilom’s unique charm.

However, pure relaxation is not the only thing special about the resort as it also offers a boat ride to Camico Island, a beautiful plot of land floating in the middle of the clear waters where we were served food on banana leaves and ice cold beer care of our friends from Heineken. The boat ride took just about thirty minutes, but time certainly flew by as we basked in the beauty of nature with sea water splashing on our faces and the cool wind enveloping our exposed skin.

It is also part of Lilom’s accommodations to provide sunset cocktails, as well as breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets for its guests to enjoy after a leisurely swim on the beach or an intense free diving session with Spot and Cupcake, the resort’s resident sea turtles.

The trip was short, but our Lilom experience was definitely one that made a significant impact to last for a lifetime.
