SC issues red light on Cyber law

MANILA, OCTOBER 10, 2012 – The Supreme Court issued a 120-day temporary restraining order (TRO) on the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 on Tuesday, October 9. The oral argument on the case is set for January 15, 2013.

There were 15 petitions filed against the controversial law, including national artist Bienvenido Lumbera, media group NUJP, Kabataan party-list representative Raymond Palatino, the Philippine Bar Association among others.

One of the petitioners is Senator Teofisto Guingona III, who today filed the CrowdSourcing Act of 2012, which paves the way for transparency, people participation and accountability in the making of laws.

Senator Edgardo Angara welcomed the pause, seeing it as an opportunity for critics to reexamine their stand.
