Cannes Lions 2019: Gambino’s ‘This Is America’ and Baco Exu do Blues’ ‘Bluesman’ win Entertainment Lions for Music Grand Prix

Technology has greatly transformed media, changing not only the way content is created but how people consume it too. In this year’s Entertainment Lions for Music, jury members had to consider various elements that make a track, taking into account distribution, promotion, production, and performance.

For 2019, the award giving body named two recipients for the Entertainment Lions for Music Grand Prix title.

The first one, “Bluesman” for the Baco Exu do Blues campaign by AKQA Sao Paulo, was recognized for its active fan engagement and community building.

While the second winner was Doomsday Entertainment’s “This is America” by Childish Gambino (musical persona taken by actor Donald Glover) for its music video production, which instantly became a hit on social media as soon as it was released.
