HOOQ Cooking New Slate of Original Productions and Partnership with Vice

HOOQ, Asia’s first and largest video-on-demand service, announced today its new slate of original productions for Indonesia with three new titles under the HOOQ Originals collection. These three new HOOQ Original Series will take on various formats, including one full length series, one short form series and a talk show, namely Cek Toko Sebelah the Series (Check out the Store Next Door), Keluarga Badak (Rhino Family), and a partnership with global youth media company VICE which will include a slate of digital content at launch and a commissioned talk show (working title TL;DR) exploring the latest trends and popular culture amongst Indonesia’s Gen Zs and millennials, through the authentic journalistic voice that VICE is known for.  These new HOOQ Originals will all be available on HOOQ in the coming months, starting with Keluarga Badak from mid December.

 

The announcement of these new original series comes on the back of the success of Brata; HOOQ’s first original series which was released back in September that topped viewership charts week after week as each episode was released on the platform.

In addition to the commissioned talk show, the partnership with VICE will also see slate of VICE digital content available on HOOQ’s free layer at launch and continue to scale over the next few months where Indonesian viewers can enjoy VICE’s unique voice of journalism, together with the plethora of online channels from uCast that HOOQ had recently added to the free layer.

Cek Toko Sebelah the Series

 

The long-awaited series take a queue from where it left off in the wildly successful 2016 box office hit Cek Toko Sebelah; a modern comedy and family drama featuring a star-studded cast comprising of Ernest Prakasa, Dion Wiyoko, Gisella Anastasia and Adinia Wirasti together with a line up of the funniest stand-up comedians Indonesia has to offer, including Dodit Mulyadi, Awwe, Adjis Doaibu, Yusril Fahriza and many more!  Follow the trials of Erwin (Prakasa) as he tries to modernize his father’s little corner shop and the unexpected effects on the community around him and his family,

 

Keluarga Badak

 

After their enormous success last Ramadan on youtube, the whacky Badak family is back for a second season!  This time on HOOQ!  This season we follow the hilarious family banter and quirky observations of everyday Indonesian family life.  Follow Mamak Dakhlia (Gita Bebhita)  as she prepare to attend a wedding anniversary dinner, take a family trip and all the usual bungles that the Badak family runs into that will guarantee you a laugh! That’s not all, the series will also feature special guests, from local celebrities to youtubers!

 

TL;DR (Working title)

 

This youth-focused talk show promises the biggest stories, conversations and topics trending in Indonesia each week, in a series of segments that mix the informative with the absurd. With each episode, prepared to be educated, entertained and inspired with new discussions around where the country is heading and what it all means.  This thought-provoking co-production with VICE will bring the irreverence, youthfulness and honesty synonymous with the VICE brand.
