BBC Worldwide announces changes to advertising sales

GLOBAL, APRIL 1, 2013 – BBC Worldwide is making changes to its advertising sales business as the company continues its reorganization along geographic lines.

Under the restructure, BBC Worldwide’s ad funded media assets will be partially decentralized as its wholly owned local channel businesses are migrated into the company’s regions, and it moves these businesses into regional P&Ls.

Remaining centralized and based out of London will be global advertising sales for BBC World News, BBC.com and BBC World Service, and for external clients such as Lonely Planet and Viki.com in international markets. This function will be headed by Carolyn Gibson in the new position of EVP international advertising sales, who will be reporting into Herb Scannell, president of BBC Worldwide America, staring tomorrow April 2.

BBC has also announced that Chris Dobson, executive vice president and general manager of BBC Advertising, will be leaving BBC Worldwide later this year, following a major restructure and regionalization of the company and its formerly global divisions.

He said: “The BBC Advertising team has achieved much in the last five years of which we can all be justifiably proud, so it was not an easy decision to move on from the business. However, given the evolution of the structure and the role, it’s the right decision and timing to leave at this point and I would like to thank all my colleagues and teams who have helped create a very special team culture across the world of BBC Advertising.”
