Roy Aguilar’s new exhibit is a rich retelling of Negrense history and culture

BACOLOD, PHILIPPINES — “Vista Negrense: Retrospect + After Image Solo Exhibition,” a four-month solo exhibition featuring scenes from the past and present painted by renowned social realist senior visual artist and art professor Rosendo “Roy” Aguilar, has officially opened to the public.

Roy is a multi-awarded Visayan artist, editorial cartoonist of the Visayan Daily Star (1982-2018), and (retired) faculty member of 34 years at the Fine Arts department of La Consolacion College Bacolod. His most notable work is the historical mural painting “Ang Babaylan” (The Healer) showcased in the Pre-Colonial main exhibit hall of The Negros Museum.

For his ongoing exhibit, the theme is in retrospect of his successful first solo show in the ’80s titled “Visita Negrense.” An extension of his masterful execution, the exhibit is a retelling of Negrense history and culture in a visual narrative.
