But before you get your hands glazed, get to know a little bit more about the history of these mouthwatering doughnuts.

Krispy Kreme first opened its doors on July 13, 1937. Inside a rented building in Winston Salem, its founder, Vernon Rudolph made the first Krispy Kreme doughnuts using a secret yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a New Orleans French chef. The doughnuts were first sold by Vernon to grocery stores.

Vernon did not intend to directly sell to people but the alluring scent of cooking doughnuts that wafted from the building got passers-by asking him if they could by some. That’s when he decided to start selling the Original Glazed doughnuts literally through a hole in an outside wall.

The year 1945 marks the birth of 7 new Krispy Kreme flavors–Jelly Filled, Peanut Cake Stick, Plain Powdered, Coconut, Chocolate and Cinnamon but the Original Glazed doughnuts stayed the same.

In 1955, the iconic bowtie logo of Krispy Kreme was trademarked and is used by the brand up until today.

Meanwhile, Krispy Kreme first made its way to the Philippine market nine years ago through the principals of the Max’s Group Inc. The flagship store was located in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Now there are already 60 Krispy Kreme stores satisfying every Filipino’s doughnut craving nationwide and we’re not complaining.

Happy birthday, Krispy Kreme!
