PH pays tribute to Comedy King across all media

THE PHILIPPINES, JULY 11, 2012: The man who made Filipinos laugh for decades has passed away Tuesday night at age 83. Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr., or "Dolphy" as he is popularly known in Philippine television, is hailed as the country’s King of Comedy.
 
Dolphy, who was supposed to celebrate his 84th birthday on July 25, died of multiple organ failure, secondary to complictions brought about by sever pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and acute renal failure at the Makati Medical Hospital where he had been confined since June 9.
 
After the news broke out on Twitter, netizens expressed their condolences and sentiments for Dolphy’s death. The hashtag #RIP Dolphy trended on Twitter and Youtube videos of the comedian’s past shows were shared by users on Facebook.
 
One of Dolphy’s sons, Eric Quizon, talked to the media about his father’s death and said "For us, comedy is dead, but long live comedy".
 
Model and TV host Bianca Gonzales tweeted "today, let us all give honor to mang dolphy, as his son eric says, by smiling to the person next to us. 🙂 #RIPDolphy
 
ABS-CBN News broadcast journalist Nina Corpuz said via Twitter: "For someone known as King of Comedy, tito Dolphy was 1 of the most down to earth celebrities I’ve ever interviewed. Walang kayabang yabang".
 
President Benigno Aquino Sr., released statement on the passing of Dolphy saying:  "He did not only revolutionize the entertainment industry; he also changed our national consciousness for the better: through his art, he extended our worldviews, and gave us the ability to reflect on, value, and find joy in the daily realities of Filipino life."
 
GMA Network’s noontime variety show Eat Bulaga also paid their respects to Dolphy on its Wednesday show. Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Wednesday edition featured the comedian’s photo on the masthead with a copy "Dolphy: Thank you for the laughter" while The Philippine Star and Manila Bulletin headlined Dolphy’s death in their Thursday edition.
