Anthony Francisco, former Marvel Studios artist, heads to Philippine Blockchain Week to talk art and NFTs

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Former Marvel Studios senior concept artist Anthony Francisco is one of the guest speakers in the lineup for Philippine Blockchain Week. The event is being held currently until December 04 at the Grand Marriott Ballroom, Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.

Anthony shared that he is excited to be part of the event, which is the first for the Philippines as the country aims to be the next blockchain capital of Asia. The seven-day event will have conferences, NFT exhibits, gaming expos, and more.

“Web3 is the next stage of technology development, and artists should start learning more about it because it’s a place for you to really own your content,” Anthony said.

Anthony will talk about his new Creature Chronicles, whose NFTs sold out in 90 minutes.

Apart from the speaking engagement, Anthony will do on-the-spot artworks that will be immediately minted into NFTs. They will later be made available to the public for bidding.

Anthony was born in the Philippines, spending his childhood in Cubao and studying at the University of Santo Tomas. At 17, he migrated to the U.S.

A long-time comic book fan, Anthony was a concept artist and illustrator for Marvel Studios for nine years. He is known as the “Visual Father of Baby Groot” of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

His work has also appeared in Black Panther and its sequel, Wakanda Forever; Thor: Ragnarok; Doctor Strange; Ant-Man; Avengers: Endgame; The Chronicles of Riddick, among others.

“I’m lucky in the sense that I knew what I wanted to do early on, and it’s in art. I was lucky enough that I found comic books early when I was younger. That helped with my artistic journey, storytelling, and visualization. I played a lot of games like Street Fighter and role play games. Those helped nurture my art,” Anthony shared.

Even as he left Marvel in 2021 to join Dolphin Entertainment, his creations will still be seen in the upcoming movies Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania and Captain Marvel 2.

As Creative Director for Dolphin Entertainment, he is currently developing Creature Chronicles for the company. He promised to show some of his NFT art in development during PBW.

“In the event, I’ll be sharing some of my work, the designs I’ve done for Marvel, and other things in development,” he said.

The Philippine Blockchain Week is powered by the following major sponsors: 1inch, Tetrix, NChain, GCash, Coins.ph, Coins.ph, DVCode, Ark of Dreams, iPay88, and Maya.
