People: DDB Group Hong Kong promotes Leo Tsui to Chief Business Officer, expands Management Team to beat the odds of 2020

Hong Kong – In a move to drive business growth despite macro-economic challenges, Leo Tsui, formerly Chief Digital Officer of DDB Group Hong Kong and President of Tribal Worldwide Hong Kong, has been promoted to Chief Business Officer across the entire agency group.

In his new role, Tsui is tasked to create business opportunities for the agency and clients alike. He has a proven track record, having rebuilt the digital side of the business, which has consistently achieved growth year-on-year since he joined in 2016.

Leo Tsui commented, “I am delighted to be stepping into this new role. We are clearly facing a difficult year but the agency has a lot of momentum. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead, especially knowing I will be working alongside a passionate, and most importantly, unified team, here at DDB.”

Andreas Krasser, CEO, remarked, “Leo is a hustler – he was a major force that helped us achieve growth in 2019 despite all the challenges Hong Kong was facing. With the year ahead looking even tougher, we need his drive and determination across the entire group, as well as his passion for expanding and strengthening brands’ connections with their customers.” Krasser added, “Leo will closely collaborate with a newly formed, fully integrated management team.”

This new management team is believed to include an injection of fresh and young blood to the existing agency leadership group, with the additions of Adrian Tso (Group Strategy Director), Maggie Cheung (Group Business Director), Koman Ko (Group Business Director) and Marco Lam (ECD). DDB is planning to drive a modern agenda that prioritises creative excellence across all consumer touchpoints. With the drastic changes of Hong Kong’s media landscape over the past few months, the agency has already shifted investment into more digital and social content production capabilities.

Andreas Krasser confirmed, “2020 is undoubtedly going to be difficult for everyone. I believe the only way to get through this is by doubling down on creativity – creativity that provides brands with an emotional advantage during times that are clearly far from rational. With the new management team united behind this belief, I am confident that DDB and our clients will be able to weather the storm and find new areas of opportunity. After all, as Bill Bernbach said, ‘creativity is the most powerful force in business’, and never before have so many brands been in need of a positive force.”

This announcement comes hot on the heels of the agency’s R3 #1 new business ranking for 2019. Last year saw DDB Group Hong Kong achieve fifteen new business wins including Dairy Farm (Health and Beauty), Samsung (Note 10 launch), Hotels.com (global merchandise and CRM), Hong Kong Tourism Board (discoverhongkong.com global website revamp) and New World (K11 Musea launch).
