Unique food trip marks PhilStar’s 25th

PHILIPPINES, JULY 2011 – As part of its 25th Anniversary celebrations, leading broadsheet Philippine Star recently held “Let’s EAT!” — a food festival that showcased a variety of “Star” inspired dishes by some of the country’s most sought after chefs and restaurants. With the chic Greenbelt 5 Fashion Walk in Makati as its backdrop, the event proved to be a special treat for the senses with its smorgasbord of flavors, fun, and flair.

Staying true to Philippine Star Lifestyle Editor Millette Mananquil’s vision, Let’s EAT saw the transformation of the iconic Greenbelt area into a gourmet haven cum street side bistro. Hundreds of guests, including top Philippine Star bosses, columnists, and local celebrities were treated to a night of cocktails and food fit for the “Star”.

However, the highlight would still have to be the Parade of Star Dishes which were later displayed in a stylish banquet at the catwalk. Among the dishes showcased were Tony Roma’s Star-studded Sampler and Magic Wok’s Belmonte Lechon Macau, the latter of which was a tribute to Star founder Betty Go-Belmonte and her sons CEO Miguel and editor-in-chief Isaac. “When I heard that they made a dish with our name on it, my initial reaction was, kailangang matikman yan (we need to sample that!),” shared Miguel in a recent interview with adobo. Sbarro’s Peperronews Pizza and Marina’s Balitang Taliba also paid homage to some of the tabloids under the Star family.

The event is just one of the many food celebrations that the Star has lined up for its hallmark year. It also kicks off a literal tour de chef as the broadsheet sends out top chefs and culinary experts for demos and shows across the nation. Among those joining are Tristan Encarnacion, Margarita Fores, Stephanie Zubiri and a whole lot more.

Meanwhile, food aficionados from all walks of life will get to taste the Star-inspired dishes for free when they spend PhP 1,500 using their BPI credit card in participating Ayala Malls restaurants. The newspaper also partnered with TV show “Wish Ko lang”, radio station DZMM, retail giant Bench, and accessory store Silverworks to celebrate its anniversary all-July long. The Philippine Star also collaborated with SM for Modern Living, and is flying in top brand consultant Martin Lindstrom for a talk this September.
