adobo Run After Dark makes daylight anthem its official song

THE PHILIPPINES, OCTOBER 12, 2011: What does a costumed night run have to do with bringing daylight to communities? Plenty, as adobo Run After Dark proves with its support for the run’s beneficiary, Isang Litrong Liwanag (One Liter of Light). The initiative, headed by MyShelter Foundation’s executive director Illac Diaz, began in a small pilot community at San Pedro Laguna where “Mang Demi Solar” lives. Isang Litrong Liwanag is fast becoming a viral campaign, spreading across the Philippines and the world, lighting up thousands of homes with a simple formula; used plastic soda bottles, water, bleach and pure Filipino ingenuity.

adobo Run After Dark, now on its second year, expects 5,000 runners to join 3k, 5k and 15k races at Aseana City (near MOA) on October 29, 2011 at 7pm. The fantasy fun run, which features an afterparty with live music and free-flowing beer, is one of the two kick-off events for Isang Litrong Liwanag on the run-up to the world record attempt on November 30, where the project is set to light up 10,000 homes from 30 communities in 17 cities in one day in partnership with  the Rotary Club District 3830 and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Aside from adobo Run After Dark, a superhero costumed run in Cagayan de Oro City in Southern Philippines on October 28 will help the project get its much-needed support.

To create awareness and to encourage participation in Isang Litrong Liwanag, a music video with rock artists Raimund Marasigan of Sandwich and Aia de Leon of Imago has been released. The catchy theme, now the adobo Run After Dark’s official song, demonstrates how the simple technology can bring light into homes still in the dark. The music video, directed by Joy Aquino and co-produced with underground Logic, hits music channel Myx and social media sites today.

Isang Litrong Liwanag has also launched its improved website isanglitrongliwanag.org, which aims to show pure Filipino ingenuity mixed with fun and ease of use to keep web visitors coming back.

MyShelter Foundation’s executive director Illac Diaz believes that with simple technology, ingenuity, and groundbreaking efforts, Isang Litrong Liwanag is ready to show the world the strength of a truly Filipino green revolution.
