Marvel, Coca-Cola join forces at Super Bowl 50

As the biggest annual sporting extravaganza in the world, the National Football League’s Super Bowl always has millions of eyes glued to their television sets. Aside from the clash between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos, this year’s Super Bowl is particularly big because it marks the 50th big game for the NFL’s championship. Recognizing this, advertisers such as Coca-Cola and Marvel Comics are looking to make a big impact at Super Bowl 50.

Advertising website Adweek received a package of co-branded mini-cans of Coke earlier this week. It features superheroes from Marvel Comics who have also appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The six cans show members of the superhero group known as The Avengers, namely  The Falcon, Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, Ant-Man, and the Hulk. The cans came with a teaser note that read, “02.07.16. The Big Game is just the beginning. Follow @CocaCola to watch the story unfold.”

Coca-Cola cans have featured a lot of creativity for the past few years, particularly with the Share a Coke campaigns of 2013 and 2014. That run saw people’s names appearing on both Coke cans and bottles, sparking a frenzy of sharing worldwide.

The 60-second Coca-Cola ad will air during the second quarter of the Super Bowl, and will likely tie in with one of this year’s most anticipated films, Captain America: Civil War, which will be released in the second quarter of 2016.
