YANGON, MAY 27, 2013 – Y&R has just announced the opening of Y&R Yangon in Myanmar, its 187th office. The network thus becomes one of the first international networks to set up shop in Myanmar with a majority-owned advertising firm. The announcement was made as the network’s other offices worldwide celebrated the firm’s 90th birthday.
Y&R Global Chairman and CEO David Sable said that Y&R Yangon affirms the network’s long-term commitment to the country. The establishment of this local office is key to the company’s strategy of setting up strong local offices that work together to resonate globally. The timing, Sable added, was very appropriate, as it represented an auspicious start to the network’s next 90 years.
Y&R Yangon General Manager Khin Myat Thu (Thu Thu) said that they relished being a part of the network’s future, adding that Myanmar was only starting to enjoy the access to brands and international services that its neighboring countries did, and that helping clients would be foundational given the many brands that would be trying to gain a foothold in this market.
Y&R Yangon is a joint venture with K-Noke Advertising, Y&R’s local partner. The office is led by Khin Myat Thu, New Business Development Director John Kyaw Myo Htun, and Director Aung Kyaw Oo, a leadership team that boasts a combined 49 years of industry experience.
