The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is preparing to enter a new chapter in its leadership, with Maria Cristina “Ginbee” L. Go set to become its first female President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on April 26, 2027, following the bank’s Annual Stockholders’ Meeting and subject to the necessary approvals.

The bank’s Board of Directors has approved the succession plan, identifying Ginbee, currently Executive Vice President and Head of Consumer Banking, to succeed Jose Teodoro “TG” K. Limcaoco, who has led BPI since 2021.

The planned transition signals both a change in leadership and the continuation of a broader transformation at one of the Philippines’ leading financial institutions. With more than two decades of experience at BPI, Ginbee is expected to build on the bank’s progress in digital banking, financial inclusion, and customer experience while navigating the evolving needs of Filipino consumers.

For BPI, her appointment also marks a milestone in the representation of women in senior leadership within the country’s banking sector.

“I believe that leadership transitions provide us with rare opportunities to both look at what has come before, while also embracing the things that have yet to come,” said BPI Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala.

“As a company with a history of reinvention and longevity, we have always encouraged transitions as a central principle of building enduring institutions. Constant renewal has always enabled us to be relevant to the stakeholders that we serve,” he added.

Jaime credited TG with bringing the bank to new heights over the past five years, citing its transformation across digital capabilities, financial inclusion, and sustainability. He also expressed confidence in the opportunities ahead under Ginbee’s leadership.

“Likewise, I am excited for the new prospects ahead under Ginbee’s stewardship. Amidst some volatility in the global and domestic environment, there are notable opportunities, particularly as the Filipino consumer sector grows, becomes more sophisticated, and seeks a trusted partner in achieving financial stability and success,” Jaime noted.

Building on a legacy of transformation

Since taking over as President and CEO in 2021, TG has overseen a period of sustained growth and modernization for BPI, strengthening its position amid a rapidly changing economic and competitive landscape.

Under his leadership, the bank expanded its reach to more than 19 million customers nationwide and grew its workforce to over 23,000 Filipinos. It also advanced financial inclusion through initiatives such as Agency Banking and digital-first banking solutions, alongside investments in technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital capabilities.

Sustainability and responsible banking likewise remained central to the bank’s transformation, supported by a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity. These efforts contributed to record levels of performance and reinforced BPI’s standing in the financial sector.

In 2026, TG was named Best Bank CEO in the Philippines by The Asian Banker, adding to the recognition received during his tenure.

Following the transition, he will remain a member of BPI’s Board of Directors and assume senior governance roles in other major operating companies of the Ayala Group, with further details to be announced in due course.

A consumer banking leader takes the helm

Ginbee brings to the incoming role a career shaped by consumer banking, business transformation, and the integration of traditional financial services with digital capabilities.

A 23-year BPI veteran, she currently leads the bank’s Consumer Banking business, where she has overseen efforts to expand its customer base, strengthen its position across key products, and improve the overall banking experience.

Her leadership has also focused on modernizing BPI’s nationwide distribution network and bringing its physical and digital channels closer together. The business has accelerated digital innovation, including the adoption of artificial intelligence-enabled capabilities, while investing in leadership development and talent transformation to prepare the organization for the future of banking.

Before assuming her current position, Ginbee served as President of BPI Family Savings Bank, leading its transformation and subsequent integration into BPI. The experience reflects her role in managing organizational change while bringing different banking operations under a more unified institution.

Before joining BPI, she held leadership positions at Citibank, Ayala Land, and Procter & Gamble, giving her experience across financial services, real estate, and consumer goods.

Her academic credentials include graduating magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman, placing first in the 1991 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination, and earning an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.

Ginbee also serves on the boards of Ayala Foundation, TransUnion Philippines, BPI Direct BanKo, and BPI MS Insurance Corporation.
