Arts & Culture: Bellas Artes Projects’ OPEN CALL to Philippine Artists, An Artist Residency Program in the Nook of Philippine History

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Bellas Artes Projects (BAP) is now accepting applications for two (2) artists from the Philippines living outside of Metro Manila to participate in an artist residency program located in Bagac, Bataan at BAP’s residency headquarters in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.  

The residency program offers decelerated time and space towards research and further development of the resident’s practice in dialogue with the historical memory and present-day context of Bataan. Artists selected will also have the opportunity to collaborate with artisans from the workshops of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, fueling innovation in a wide range of art making practices, including but not limited to visual art, performance, architecture and image making.

Bellas Artes is interested in collaborating with artists who wish to be immersed in BAP’s Bataan residency campus and have greater access to learning, resources and networks, and who are interested in being part of a unique artistic environment, exposure to traditional craftsmanship methods, collaboration with rural communities, and to have space and time for research, thought and dialogue with other arts and cultural practitioners.

The residency is for a one-month period, occurring between September through December 2019. Applicants must provide one preferred dates and one alternative dates. Additional guidelines and qualifications are available at www.bellasartsprojects.org/open-call.

Submission of applications are open from March 13, 2019 and will end on May 3, 2019. A jury of former BAP Residents and BAP Team will comprise the selection committee and review and Interview applicants from May 6-30, 2019. Participating artists will be notified on June 3, 2019.
