National Geographic Channel premieres documentary on Malaysia’s second PM

ASIA-PACIFIC – KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, AUGUST 23, 2010 – National Geographic Channel, the Ministry of Information, Communication & Culture and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), in association with Astro today launched A Leader’s Legacy: Tun Abdul Razak, an exclusive 1x 60-minute documentary, shot and produced in full High-Definition (HD) revealing the personal story of Malaysia’s second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak, or fondly known as the “Father of Development”. 
 
For the first time, Malaysians will relive the story of the visionary leader and his journey to steer the country out of the dark clouds of racial strife on 13 May 1969. Tun Abdul Razak was the man who later became the captain of the nation and paved the way for Malaysia’s future development.
 
"I am more heartened to know that some of Malaysia’s youngest and brightest filmmakers were behind the making of this documentary, supervised by National Geographic Channel’s award-winning producers. It is certainly a testament to the potential and vitality of the local filmmaking industry,” said Minister of Information, Communication & Culture, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim.   
 
A Leader’s Legacy: Tun Abdul Razak trails the emotional journey of the late Tun Abdul Razak, inviting viewers to explore his motivation and deliberation as he strived towards the nation’s development and unity. The documentary also unveils his never-before-seen persona as a leader who was instrumental in implementing the New Economic Policy, and sheds new lights on his relationship with Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. 
 
The documentary also brings viewers through an intimate moment with the man, illustrating a heart-warming account about his sacrifices for the country, as he faced the biggest struggle with an illness that remained a secret even to his family before his passing. 
 
The documentary is directed by young aspiring Malaysian filmmaker Justin Ong, produced by Lina Teoh, and supervised by National Geographic Channel’s award-winning supervising producer Choylin Mok. 
 
The highly anticipated documentary will be available in Bahasa Malaysia and English language tracks to reach a broader audience, with a special guest presentation in Bahasa Malaysia by the iconic Malaysian newscaster, Wan Zaleha Radzi. The documentary draws interviews with Tun Abdul Razak’s family members, including his eldest son and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak. It also features the appearance of some of the most important people associated with Tun Abdul Razak’s success.
