MangoRed: spicing up prenuptials and wedding photography

THE PHILIPPINES, AUGUST 23, 2012: When you think about weddings, you think romance, delicate flowers, and all things fresh and pretty. But not MangoRed, the Philippines’ rock and roll nuptial and wedding photographers, as they offer creative ideas that may seem strange to some but are definitely unique.

Led by brothers and founders Randall and Ryan Dagooc, MangoRed’s unusual style philosophy could be the key to making it in the wedding photography industry, but that isn’t entirely the case. “We’re not geniuses. We were just at the right place at the right time,” Randall Dagooc said during the Ayala Museum’s DesignTalks last Saturday, August 18.

The brothers first started with commercial photography – from food to product photography, including animal feeds. It wasn’t until they started doing friends’ weddings that they discovered their niche – wedding photography. “Weddings are happy and honest,” Randall said, comparing this experience with their commercial photography days when “pleasing art directors and clients” was a bit hard.

But that’s not to say that they don’t have a hard time connecting with their clients and delivering what they want. Wedding photography is still a challenge for this duo but according to Randall, the key in making it happen is to “know the couples, make them feel comfortable and just be honest”.

When it comes to creative ideas, even MangoRed, who’s known for their unusual approach to wedding photography, has a constant fear of running out of ideas. However, keeping an open mind and traveling keeps their ideas fresh.

When asked about their style, which is commonly described as anti-romantic, Randall said that MangoRed does not adhere to a certain style philosophy. “It’s a work in progress,” he said.
