Nothing Like Nostalgia

Those were the days!  For six Valentine-timed nights, The Jackson Five jived at the Folk Arts Theater and the Araneta Coliseum.  For Michael Jackson, the last three decades since these images have been colorful and mired in HIStory, to say the least, but for a few glorious moments in the 1970s, we have these to smile about.
Michael Jackson did the Hustle with Vilma Santos.   Then Philippine screendom’s closest version of Hannah Montana, Santos would metamorphose into a multi-awarded drama actress, variety show host, Senator’s wife, to her current role as Rosa Vilma Recto, Honorable Mayor of Lipa City, Batangas.

Long before controversy was inextricably linked to noontime show hosts, Student Canteen was the number 1 lunch time show hosted by business-clad Eddie Ilarde, Bobby Ledesma, Helen Vela and Coney Reyes-Mumar.  Ilarde and Reyes still host a radio and TV show, respectively.  Vela and Ledesma have long been deceased.

Understandably not in any of the pictures, but nonetheless noteworthy, the longest-running family weekly comedy “John ‘en Marsha” used the music of Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough” with Filipino lyrics as the show’s theme song.

On the business-side of things, Hope, the luxury cigarette, Vicor Records and Philippine Airlines brought the future King of Pop, physically, to Philippine shores.

Hard to imagine the Jackson 5 was here doing SIX(!) concert dates. Just isn’t what it used to be.
