Instituto Cervantes Manila, Embassy of Spain launch two day AI forum with Dr. Nerea Luis Mingueza

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to shape industries, education, and everyday life, Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Embassy of Spain are spearheading a timely dialogue on its impact with a two-day public event on August 12 and 13, 2025.

The program features Dr. Nerea Luis Mingueza, a distinguished Spanish computer scientist and AI engineer with a PhD in Computer Science and over a decade of experience in AI research and application. Recognized for her work in ethical AI, automation, and human-machine collaboration, Dr. Luis will travel to Manila to deliver thought-provoking discussions on the transformative role of AI in society.

The first session, “Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Humans?”, will be held on August 12 at 5:00 PM at Instituto Cervantes Manila’s Intramuros branch. Dr. Luis will be joined by Dr. Ethel C. Ong, Dean of the College of Computer Studies at De La Salle University, whose research bridges computer science with learning, mental healthcare, and cybersafety. The colloquium will examine pressing questions on AI’s role in education, the future of work and strategies to prepare for a world where intelligent systems are deeply integrated into daily life. On August 13 at 10:00 AM, the conversation continues with a seminar entitled “AI and the Future of Work: 2025–2035. What Can We Expect?”, in partnership with Far Eastern University’s Institute of Arts and Sciences – Department of Mathematics. Hosted at FEU Manila, this session will focus on AI’s influence on education, innovation, and the future of digital learning environments, offering attendees a glimpse into the evolving technological landscape of the next decade.

This initiative, organized by Instituto Cervantes Manila with the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines, AECID, and Far Eastern University, aims to provide students, professionals, educators, and the public with access to global expertise and a platform for critical reflection on building a responsible, inclusive digital future.
