McCann Erickson New York wins Midas Grand Trophy and four Gold Ingots for Mastercard

New York, NY –The Midas Awards announces the winners for its 2009 competition.  McCann Erickson, New York was awarded the coveted 2009 Midas Grand Trophy for Client MasterCard, for “Shopping”, winning the Grand Trophy for Best Special Effects.  The McCann Erickson New York creative team includes CCO Joyce King Thomas, CD/AD Michele Raso, and CD/Copywriter Robert Frost.

The Midas Awards is only international competition to recognize excellence in financial services communications on a global scale.  Its Grand Midas Award winners are selected by the Board of Judges and Advisors as the “Best of Show”. 

The 2009 Midas Awards honored ten winners with Gold Ingots.  Six Gold Ingots were awarded to agencies U.S. agencies, with McCann Erickson, New York garnering four Gold Ingots for their client MasterCard.  McCann won two Gold Ingots in the Best Integrated Mixed Media category for “Overjoy of Giving” and “Brit Awards”; a Gold Ingot for Best Television Commercial for “Mr. Bill: 30 TV”; and for “Small Business Land”, winning for Best Animation.

Firstborn, New York was awarded a Gold Ingot for client Northwestern Mutual in the Insurance category for “Let Your Worries Go”; and Dailey & Associates of Hollywood, California received a Gold Ingot for “Quickbooks Mixed Media Campaign” in the financial Software category.

This year, the Midas Awards honored four agencies from around the globe with Gold Ingots. TBWA/Whybin/Tequila of Auckland, New Zealand won two Gold Ingots in the Best Online advertising category for their client ASB Bank for “Crazy wwworld,” and in the Best Point-of-Purchase category for “Up Grade Your Year”. 

Network BBDO of Johannesburg, South Africa garnered a Gold Ingot for “Recycled Billboard” for client NedBank in the Banking category, and Vahid Associates of Manama, Bahrain received a Gold Ingot for their work for” Spread Prosperity” for client BNH in the Annual Report category.

Silver Ingot Award winners include: the U.S. with six Silver, Germany with five Silver, England with three Silver, South Africa and Malaysia with two Silver, and, Austria and Canada were each awarded one Silver Ingot.

The eight-year-old Midas Awards competition received entries from twenty-one countries spanning five continents for this year.

The Midas Grand Jury is comprised of international client and agency leaders from creative and marketing disciplines, as well as international experts in finance and communication.  Jury members award Gold and Silver Midas Ingots to the highest scoring entries in each category.
