Dentsu triumphs at 2024 D&AD Awards, highlighted by Black Pencil victory

TOKYO, JAPAN — With over 12,300 entries, the highest number since 2007, a total of 652 Pencils were awarded at the 2024 D&AD Awards. Winners were announced on May 22 after judges evaluated over 30,000 pieces of work. Among the winners were teams across Dentsu Creative and Dentsu Japan, who earned one Black, four Yellow, seven Graphite, and 10 Wood Pencils.

Black Pencil winner

Dentsu Inc. Tokyo secured the prestigious Black Pencil for the “My Japan Railway” campaign for JR Group in the Art Direction – Integrated category. This top honor underscores the campaign’s exceptional artistry and innovative approach.

Yellow Pencil winners

Three Yellow Pencils were awarded to Dentsu for outstanding work:

  • Dentsu Tokyo was honored with a Yellow Pencil for “My JapanRailway” in Illustration – Integrated.
  • Dentsu Creative Amsterdam won a Yellow Pencil with “A Piece of Me” for KPN in Use of Music – Brand Collaboration.
  • Dentsu Tokyo and Otsuka Pharmaceutical with “Scuffing Song” earned a Yellow Pencil in Animation – Traditional
