MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Philippine Airlines (PAL) is committing to empowering women in aviation. Through its Fly With Her program, the country’s flag carrier is setting its sights on a more inclusive future, pledging 10 million pesos to support aspiring female pilots in partnership with the PAL Foundation.
As the world marked International Women’s Day, PAL reaffirmed its commitment to narrowing the gender gap in aviation—a space where women currently make up only around 6% of pilots globally.
“We reiterate our support to women who dream of flying for and even assuming top positions in the PAL organization,” said Alvin M. Miranda, PAL Vice President for Marketing.
Apart from the P10 million pledge, PAL will release a film inspired by a real-life story of a young girl who dreamed of becoming a pilot.
“When little girls see women take on leadership roles, it inspires them to do the same and possibly go beyond,” said Lilybeth T. Ng, PAL Assistant Vice President for Pilot Affairs.
PAL’s skies have long been graced by women pioneers. In 1989, Captain Aimee Carandang-Gloria broke ceilings and records as Southeast Asia’s first woman to fly a commercial aircraft. By 1993, she made history again but this time as the region’s first woman airline captain.
More than three decades later, PAL continues to champion that legacy fostering a culture where young women are not just passengers of change, but pilots of their own journeys.
As part of its signature #CareThatComesFromTheHeart, PAL invites everyone to be part of this movement. Learn more about Fly With Her, and discover how PAL is elevating women in aviation: https://www.philippineairlines.com/FlyWithHer
