Kodak Film School Competition winners to be screened at Clermont-Ferrand Festival

GLOBAL – CLERMONT-FERRAND, FRANCE, FEBRUARY 2011 – Kodak will once again host a screening of the winners of its annual Film School Competition at the 33rd International Short Film Festival & Market on February 4-12. Other Kodak-sponsored events include a presentation on the latest Kodak tools for visual storytelling, a booth where filmmakers can talk one-on-one with Kodak reps, and various networking gatherings. These activities provide the student filmmakers with an opportunity to showcase their films, display their talents, and meet people who can help them realize their dreams.

The highlight of the five-day program is The Kodak Showcase screening on February 10 of the winning films of the 2010 Kodak Film School Competition from four regions:Yuki Ukibe’s Wish You Were Here (Japan Academy of Moving Images), Massimo Bettarelli’s Los Trashumantes (CUEC-UNAM, Mexico), Mihai Marius Apopei’s Close Encounters From the Third Reich (National University of Theatre and Cinematography "I.L.Caragiale," Romania), and Joshua Nitschke’s Misdirection (California State University-Northridge, United States). Kodak will also screen I Won’t Be Here by Jakub Giza, winner of the 2010 Golden Tadpole Award for best student cinematography at the Plus Camerimage International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography.

The program is just one of many initiatives offered by Kodak worldwide to support future filmmakers and film school educators. Other measures include educational materials, scholarships, awards, discounts and workshops.

Fabien Fournillon, marketing communications manager for Kodak’s European region, comments, "Our objective is to help new talent present their work to a professional audience and assist them with networking opportunities at this important juncture of their careers. We hold the Film School Competition and then sponsor the winning filmmakers’ trip here as part of the prize because we want to provide a unique opportunity for these promising filmmakers to gain massive exposure at a renowned festival."

The Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival has become one of the world’s premier cinema events dedicated to short films since its origination in 1979. It is the second largest film festival in France after Cannes, attracting around 140,000 attendees.
