Brand & Business: WIX revamps the PRINT magazine website with new site design and style

TEXAS, USA – Today, PRINT, where creative people gather to inspire and build design dialogue, released a fresh new website design and platform for printmag.com. The partners at PRINT Holdings, led by Andrew Gibbs, worked hand-in-hand with Wix’s Design Studio, a dedicated team of designers in charge of creating Wix’s amazing web design.

This partnership resulted in a new website layout that delivers a user-friendly interface allowing for easier navigation, more clearly organized content that is easily searchable, access to an endless scroll of design-driven articles, and new categories to support an ever-evolving industry.

Wix, a cloud-based development platform with over 170 million users worldwide, executed a site optimized by existing website builder capabilities with the addition of adjusted performance elements offered through the Wix platform. Over 9,500 articles, part of PRINT’s rich archival content, were migrated to the new site and organized under categories accessible through the site’s signature channels: The Daily Heller, Design Matters, Design Inspiration, Design News, Typography, Illustration, Branding and Photography.

PRINT’s magazine-style voice harkens back to the roots of the brand (founded in 1940), while the site’s editorial coverage continues to grow outward with the field at large. And through it all, the site’s new endless scroll feature gives today’s readers easy access to a massive cache of content.

“We’re executing a new vision for the PRINT brand, beginning with a fresh face on the site to reflect an expanded editorial focus,” said Andrew Gibbs, partner, PRINT Holdings. “As the No. 1 resource for the graphic design community, we’re connecting our audience with both the history and future of design.”

To complete the look of the site, PRINT chose a newly released font family, ROLE, the first standalone Latin typeface family released by Morisawa since the foundry was established in Osaka, Japan, in 1924. This new family was created by legendary type designer Matthew Carter, who drew the preliminary letterforms in collaboration with a team from Japan—Morisawa designers Sakura Taruno and Shotaro Nakano, with Kunihiko Okano of Shotype Design, who then collaborated with Carter in refining the family. Later, Morisawa designers Yuya Kobari and Ai Handa joined the ROLE team. The ROLE superfamily is available at fontelier.com.

The entire site was an exercise in collaboration amongst the six PRINT Holdings partners, the Wix team and the Morisawa team. Together, PRINT Holdings is committed to carrying the PRINT brand forward in innovative new ways while honoring its deep legacy.
