Unilab Foundation launches STEMKonek mentoring platform

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Unilab Foundation launched the STEMKonek, an online mentoring platform that provides learners access to mentors and relevant STEM resources, to keep them motivated and interested in STEM while improving their overall confidence. The event was held last November 25 at The Mind Museum, JY Campos Park, 3rd Ave, Taguig City.

It is the first online mentoring platform in the country that focuses on supplementary STEM content and mentorship services to boost the STEM landscape and increase the STEM workforce in the country.

In her message, ULF Executive Director Miss Lilibeth Aristorenas highlighted the importance of mentoring in STEM. She also emphasized that the mentees will have meaningful experiences in STEMKonek by accessing mentors who share best practices about the STEM environment, trends, and their experiences in the field.

“I hope that this experience fuels you to initiate change, be it for yourself, for others, or for your community. Know that we are here to support you and ignite that passion to strengthen the STEM landscape of our country.”

A total of 46 participants from different sectors attended the launch. Students, teachers, STEM professionals, and media representatives witnessed the panel discussion about mentorship and participated in the fun-filled games. Students also share their interest in meeting mentors who have years of experience in the field.

Sandy Noche, one of the STEMKonek Mentors, encouraged learners to find good mentors. He added, “It’s one thing to know where you are going, but it’s another thing to have a map. You always have someone who’s there for you.”

Ralph Keith Gonzaga, one of the STEMKonek Mentees, affirmed Sandy’s encouragement. “To my fellow learners, don’t be intimidated. Don’t be afraid to seek for mentors because they will surely help us improve and enhance our skills and knowledge in STEM.”
