Digital: Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) elects new board, announces CG Arts Certification

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), a trade association promoting the Philippines video game industry elected its Board of Directors and Officers for 2021 – 2023. GDAP is composed of game companies, game support service providers, and academes that work closely with government and other associations to promote the industry and help member businesses and partners grow.

Having served GDAP as President for 10 years, Alvin Juban moves to the Chairman position. He will be joined by James Ronald Lo as President and Solon Chen as Vice-President along with Executive Director Ria Lu. The new Board of Directors includes Danni Taylan, Rafael Ortiz, Dietrich Quemado, Jester Tesoro, Walter Manalo, Linanne Pineda, and Rafael Cabredo.

“As chairman, I look forward to working with the board with the mission of ensuring our members are equipped with the tools & expertise to improve their business skill, processes, & practices. We’ll continue to strive to maintain focus on uplifting, developing, & promoting our industry,” stated Alvin Juban, newly elected Board Chair. “The collective effort of our executive officers and board members is essential as we work on initiatives that will strengthen our industry and enhance the quality of product and service we serve,” stated by James Lo, President.

CG Creator Certification – A Japanese Certification Exam on Computer Graphics

GDAP is working towards the industry’s capacity development and is continuously looking for innovative ways to transform teaching and learning through the use of technology. In its effort to increase the quality of computer graphics in the country, GDAP reached out and partnered with the CG Arts Society of Japan to localize the CG Creator Certification for the Philippines and on July 11, 2021, the first translated CG Creator Certification Exam – Basic Level will be administered online in the Philippines.

The CG Creator Certification is a digital arts certification created in 1991 by the CG Arts Society of Japan. This was certified by the Japanese Ministry of Education, and is recognized by major Japanese broadcasting, animation, games, and visual effects studios. Creators in the field of games, movies, animation, commercials, music videos, apps, and other related fields are encouraged to take this certification test. This certification is recognized by over seventy Japanese CG and broadcasting studios, and while this certification alone does not assure employment in any of the studios, it is a good gauge to see a creator’s current level.
