MANILA – November 11, 2013 – Twisted Fork’s Dan Matutina was one of 37 young creatives to receive the prestigious ADC Young Guns award. The winners were announced by Zack Kinslow, Creative Production Manager at The Art Directors Club.
Matutina, along with the other members of YG11, this year’s incoming class, received a unique Cube designed by GrandArmy at the awards ceremony + exhibition party on November 7 in New York.
While Matutina was happy to win the award, he shared that it was difficult for him to celebrate, as the ceremony coincided with the arrival of Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines.
“The Young Guns is a very prestigious award for young creatives, and I’m very happy that I won. But I also felt an incredibly hard time to celebrate, because it was the day Typhoon Yolanda struck our home in Tacloban City. Right now, my thoughts are about the safety of my parents, relatives and friends in Leyte. This award is for them and the country,” said Matutina, who was born in Tacloban City, Leyte.
The city, placed under state of emergency on November 11, was one of the hardest hit by the category five typhoon, which is said to be the most powerful storm to make landfall in recorded history. A number of organizations are now accepting donations for those affected by the typhoon.
Matutina is also the co-founder of Plus63 Design Co., a design studio that creates brand identities, strategize communications, and design for print and web, as stated in Matutina’s profile on the ADC Young Guns website.

The YG11 class’ work will be featured in an exhibition at the ADC Gallery in New York until November 19, Kinslow said. Their work will also be added to the ADC permanent online collection.
All YG11 winners’ work will also be celebrated in the ADC Young Guns 11 Annual, published exclusively as an app this year for the first time ever. The app is designed by Brazil-based the goodfellas based on GrandArmy’s identity.
Along with receiving a complimentary one-year ADC membership, YG11 winners belong permanently to the ADC YG Network, often earning the chance to be featured in YG events and on the ADC Young Guns website.
