Pecha Kucha Night Manila volume 3 starts with world-class design, ends with world-class photography

PHILIPPINES, SEPTEMBER 8, 2010 – Inspiration, fun, froyo and popcorn. Pecha Kucha Night (PKN) Manila volume 3 treated a sold-out Shangri-La Mall Cineplex 4 audience to what one attendee described as a "TEDTalks for hipsters". On speed, is more like it. PKN Organizers Ideals Creatives gave 12 presenters six minutes and forty seconds each to talk about 20 slides–quite a feat for anyone holding a microphone and blinded by a spotlight.

AJ Dimarucot opened the night with a widely applauded talk about his t-shirt designs which have been picked up by the likes of Urban Outfitters, Nike and Adidas. Pinoy pride continued to run high as By Implication’s Philip Cheang explained the basics of Wildfire, the student group’s winning entry to the 2010 Microsoft Imagine Cup.

There were plenty of light moments, including Carl Joe Javier’s narration of his exploits in self-publishing, which were told with self-deprecating humor. There were even more laughs at award-winning film and commercial director Mark Meily’s monologue outlining the basic principles of the Nora Aunor School of Acting (with matching demonstrations) and Bluprint magazine Editor-in-Chief Paulo Alcazaren’s witty and informative treatise on the history of architecture in the metropolis.
