These make for a quirky awards program, right?

Let’s get down to it! To help you in picking your best YouTube ads, here is a rundown on the categories.

Of the 17 categories, 10 are industry-focused. Among these, you can easily choose which industry is most appropriate for the brand featured in the YouTube ad you want to submit. The next six categorizes ads based on methods applied in storytelling, while the last one is highlighting the campaign-to-offline-goal connection.

Here are the 10 industry-specific and brand-focused categories. A brand and its products or services must fall under any of the following:

  • Food and Beverage:  Ad must be for a company in the food and beverage industry. You can submit food products like snacks, condiments, processed food, and others. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages like soft drinks, juices, water and beers also fall under this category. We have a separate category for restaurants and fast-food chains so check where your brand falls.
  • Health and Nutrition: Ad must be for a company in the health and nutrition industry. This category includes pharmaceutical products and vitamins, as well as health and wellness services.
  • Beauty and Personal Care: Ad must be for a company that has products and services in the beauty or personal care industry. This category encompasses an array of products from make-up to hair products, soaps, and other hygiene and sanitary items, as well as services like salons, spas, and many more.
  • Financial Institutions and Services: Ad must be for products or services from financial institutions like banks, insurance companies, remittance centers and the like.
  • Retail and Restaurants: Ad must be for a company in the retail and restaurant industry. This category includes malls, clothes, accessories and other retail items. Fast-food chains, groceries, convenience stores also fall here (not in the Food & Beverage category).
  • Technology, E-commerce, and Telco: Ad must be for products or services of a technology, eCommerce or telco company. IT services, gadgets, mobile products, telecommunications services, eCommerce platforms and apps and the like all fall under this category.
  • Travel, Transport, Automotive, and Leisure: Ad must be for products or services of a company in the travel, transport, automotive or leisure industry. Campaigns for tourism, tour services, online travel agencies, airlines, cars and vehicles, public transportation, hotels and resorts all fall under this category.
  • Media and Publications: Ad must be for a company in the media and publication industry. Mass media outlets, broadcasters, press, magazines, and the like are all invited to enter under this category.
  • Corporate Image and Public Sector: Ad must be for corporate image or the public sector. This includes campaigns by public and government institutions as well as those that build up the corporate image of a company from the private sector.
  • Charities and Non-Profit: Ad must be for charitable institution or non-profit organization. NGOs, schools, charities, foundations, and the like can enter their campaigns here.

The following categories put emphasis on formats and methods used by ads:

  • Multi-video Storytelling: If an ad tells a story across multiple videos, this category is for you.
  • Best in 5-seconds Intro: Your ad fits this category if it has a compelling 5-second intro that keeps viewers from clicking the “skip” button.
  • Long-form Storytelling: This category asks for ads that are worth more than a minute of the viewers’ time.
  • 6-second Storytelling: This is for the short-and-sweet 6-second YouTube bumper ads.
  • Storytelling for Occasions: While there may be ads for all seasons, this category are for creations made for special occasions like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and the like.
  • Format Innovation: Did your ad go beyond the usual video format? If you used 360 video, virtual reality, interactive film, and the like, then this category is for your ad.

The remaining category bridges your ad to brand lift and even sales results. Brands and agencies must submit their entries first. Ads that will be considered for the category will be determined collaboratively by YouTube, the judges, and the brand at a later time.

  • Effectiveness: How much of an impact has your ad made on your brand’s business goals? The numbers will do the talking here.

Remember, joining the competition is FREE, and one ad can be entered in more than one category. Show how creative you can get with storytelling with all these categories you can enter! Wouldn’t it be cool for your ad to be named “Best in 5-seconds intro”?
